CSU Tiny House

CSU Students are Making an Impact!

Colorado State University students are building a Tiny House! The IDEA 450 Design Thinking Collaborative course is a student-led, high-impact capstone class offered through the Richardson Design Center. The course is comprised of 24 interdisciplinary undergraduate and graduate students who will research, design, and construct a tiny home. The students will integrate sustainable attributes and inclusive principles in the home to promote human well-being.

"The tiny home project has shifted the focus off of ourselves and has shown us that our education and time at CSU can be spent in giving to our community." - Sabrina Oliver, Tiny House Team Member

The interdisciplinary project is comprised of the following majors:

  • Apparel and Merchandising
  • Art
  • Biomedical Sciences
  • Business Administration
  • Computer Science
  • Construction Management
  • Environmental Engineering
  • Family and Consumer Sciences
  • Interdisciplinary Liberal Arts
  • Interior Architecture
  • Mechanical Engineering

The house will be NOAH Certified. The nationwide organization recognizes safety, construction, and energy efficiency standards for tiny homes on wheels. After all passed inspections, the house will receive a NOAH seal. The house will also follow International Residential Code Appendix Q tiny house provisions. Additionally, the students will undergo a construction document redline review with CSU Facilities Management.

Your donation will support the Richardson Design Center Innovation fund, which can provide construction materials and services to build the tiny house. If you are interested in donating time - please stop by and help us build the house. For more information about volunteering your time, please contact Maria Delgado at

The house will be built by the students right in CSU's backyard!

Every dollar adds up - thank you for supporting the CSU Tiny House project!
