As we celebrate National Latinx Heritage Month, we look for ways we can highlight Latinx identities, stories, and experiences, and ways Latinx students can come together to share and celebrate their cultural pride. One opportunity to join in the celebrations is through gifting an El Centro sarape stole to students who are graduating.
“El Centro's programming during Latinx Heritage Month has created an inclusive atmosphere on campus where we Latinx students can openly feel pride in our culture and embrace our identities. For myself and others, the familiarity of the events and the memorable speakers have gone a long way in making us feel like we belong at CSU.” - Yesenia Ortiz, 5th year
With your help, we want to provide an opportunity for more Latinx students to receive an El Centro sarape stole for graduation as they enter the next steps in their journey. These stoles are an important part of sharing our cultural pride during a historic moment for our students. Students spend four or more years working toward graduation, many of which are also the first in their families to graduate from college. During their time at CSU, they may often be in classrooms or majors where they are the only Latinx person there. Finding a way for these students to build community and boast their cultural heritage and pride is so important to El Centro.
“The stoles provide an opportunity for our Latinx students to be proud and celebrate their cultural heritage during a BIG moment in their lives.” – Dora Frias, El Centro Director
Through these stoles, we can illuminate our community and give students a tangible piece to wear proudly. By donating just $27.00 you can purchase a stole for a Latinx student today! Through your giving, we want to have enough stoles for our entire Latinx student community.
